Nightwish

Nightwish is symphonic heavy metal band from Kitee, Finland, founded in 1996 by Tuomas Holopainen.

The band was initially founded as an acoustic band with Holopainen on keyboards, Tarja Turunen on vocals and Emppu Vuorinen on guitar. In early 1997 drummer Jukka Nevalainen joined in and acoustic guitar was replaced with an electric one. Having transformed into a power metal band, Nightwish released their debut full-length album Angels Fall First in November 1997. Together with Tarja Turunen they produced 5 albums before she was dismissed in October 2005, right after the last concert of the Once Upon A Tour, in Helsinki. In 2007, Swedish singer Anette Olzon was announced as her replacement.

Ex-After Forever singer Floor Jansen joined in 2012 to fill in for Anette Olzon after her departure during the US tour. A few months later, Floor was announced as the official new lead vocalist of the band.

Throughout the years, the band proved to be one of the leaders of the genre, adding film score elements to their sound more and more. They even released the score for their own movie Imaginaerum in 2012, while the second CD for 2020 Human. :||: Nature. is entirely composed of symphonic music.

Nightwish is expected to release their tenth album in 2024.
