Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden is a British heavy metal band from London. The band was formed in December 1975 by bassist Steve Harris, soon joined by guitarist Dave Murray. It is one of the pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal. Iron Maiden is one of the most commercially successful bands in heavy metal and has sold over a hundred million albums. Its sense of melody and a certain complexity brings it closer to progressive metal. Its longevity, its powerful and melodic compositions, the diversity of its discography and especially its quality of precursors of the genre have made it one of the flagship bands of the heavy metal scene. The name of the band refers to a torture instrument invented at the end of the 18th century, the iron maiden. Its mascot, Eddie, is the brainchild of cartoonist Derek Riggs. The group is frequently accused of Satanism, particularly because of the fantastic imagery conveyed or its references to biblical writings such as the Apocalypse or those of Aleister Crowley. However, the members of the group have always denied these accusations.
