Story
Ghost is a Swedish heavy metal band from the city of Linköping.
Formed in 2006, its musical style, which mixes pop influences and sounds close to hard rock, contrasts with its image, closer to the world of black metal. The members of the group have the particularity of not having revealed their identity, evolving in anonymity and wearing masks on stage. The band has developed a universe inspired by horror movies and Catholic liturgy. The singer is a sort of Satanist antipope, originally called Papa Emeritus, supported by disciples, the Nameless Ghouls. The outfits of the members, as well as the staging and the decorations of the concerts, refer to the satanic mythology and evoke the universe of the black metal.
Added to that, the musicians use choirs and lyrics in Latin, reminding the catholic liturgical music. Ghost has been successful since the release of its first album in 2010. Its second album increased the popularity of the group, especially in the United States where it was renamed Ghost B.C for legal reasons, "Because of Copyright". The album released in 2015, Meliora, met with success beyond just heavy metal fans and led the band to perform at major European festivals as well as win a Grammy Award. Their fourth album, Prequelle, is also very successful.
